Facebook Software Engineer Intern
Facebook’s Above & Beyond CS program gave me the extra nudge that I needed to strengthen my technical interview skills. The program was an absolute success.
I’m a senior at the University of Maryland studying computer science and minoring in technology entrepreneurship and innovation. I’ve had the pleasure of having prior internships at major tech companies, and I was able to secure return offers both times.
During these internships, the feedback I received was always, “Yasmin you have such strong communication and personal skills.” In my opinion, my coding skills were just average—and that intimidated me from applying to future jobs.
I was going to just take the last return offer I received, just because I did not want to interview again, until I heard about Facebook’s Above & Beyond CS (ABCs) program. This program gave me the extra nudge that I needed to strengthen my technical interview skills.
The program was an absolute success and coincidentally, I will be starting at Facebook later this year as a software engineering intern. I can directly say that it was a result from the lessons and valuable skills I learned at ABCs.
If someone were to ask me for advice on how to get an internship at a top tech company and be successful during that internship, I would tell them to seek out mentors that resemble you. Find a support group. I personally would not be where I am without the incredible help of the network I built.
